Factor Structure and Measurement Invariance of Youth Psychopathic Traits Inventory-Child Version in Chinese Children

Abstract: The primary goal of the present study was to examine the latent factor structure and measurement invariance (MI) of the Youth Psychopathic Traits Inventory-Child Version (YPI-CV) in a sample of Chinese children. 299 school children (aged 9–12, 47.3% female) completed the Chinese version of the YPI-CV, and their parents completed a different measure of psychopathic traits, as well as ones for other measures: the Child Problematic Traits Inventory (CPTI), the Strength and Difficulty Questionnaire (SDQ), and the … Show more

“…Finally, strict invariance constraints on all items residual variances are invariant across groups. The results show that the ΔCFI were below the cut-off recommended by Ren, et al [54]. The model fit was excellent to good (CFI = 0.904; RMSEA = 0.057).…”

“…According to Petrowski, et al [53], configural, metric, and scalar invariance are enough for implementing measurement invariance. For tests of invariance, the changes of CFI (ΔCFI) were used as indices, and ΔCFI 0.01 indicate strong invariance [54]. First, the results in Table 5 show that the configural invariance model, which simultaneously estimates all model parameters freed across groups results in an excellent model fit [54].…”

“…The YPI focuses more tightly on core interpersonal and affective features than the PCL Youth Version, and the YPI possesses a structure theoretically coherent with the PCL. For example, one of the most widely accepted latent structures of the YPI is the three‐factor model made up of Grandiose‐Manipulative, Callous‐Unemotional, and Impulsive‐Irresponsible (Colins, Noom, & Vanderplasschen, 2012; Fossati et al, 2016; Orue & Andershed, 2015; Ren et al, 2019; Wang et al, 2017; Yang et al, 2019) to focus on the central traits of psychopathy. Compared to other measures, then, the YPI has the potential to highlight stable features better.…”
