“…4 Though not all women who report menopausal symptoms are bothered by them, 5 several large studies have demonstrated an association between menopausal symptoms and lower quality of life. [6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13] A higher total score on the menopause symptoms checklist (which summarizes psychological, vaso-somatic, and general symptomatic burden) 7 , higher selfreported frequency of vasomotor symptoms, 12 and a greater number of menopausal symptoms 7 have all been found to be significantly associated with lower quality of life. The Study of Women's Health Across the Nation (SWAN) measured healthrelated quality of life of approximately 3,000 women and found that several of the symptoms associated with menopause (e.g., hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, leaking urine) were also associated with lower quality of life.…”
