Factors Associated With Vaccination Compliance in Southeast Asian Children: A Systematic Review

Abstract: Although vaccination coverage has reached a peak of 86% globally, around 19.9 million infants and children are yet to receive routine vaccinations—with Asia holding the highest prevalence of noncompliance. This implies notable gaps in vaccination coverage among some regions in the world. This study aims to analyze the factors associated with compliance toward childhood vaccination in Southeast Asia. A systematic review of observational studies was conducted using the following databases: PubMed, Scopus, and Co… Show more

“…Parents with more children might have a lot of responsibilities which limit their ability to allocate time and subsequently district their adherence. Moreover, higher child’s birth order increases non-adherence which is also consistent with the existing evidence [ 51 ]. Parents with more children tend not feel the urgency due to the fact that their older children never get any vaccine-preventable disease [ 51 ].…”

Also, an association was found between non-adherence and child age, as the non-adherence increases when children get older [ 52 ].…”

“…To achieve this goal, a full course of appropriate vaccines should be given at the right time [3]. However, there is a great difference between immunization rates in developing/transitional versus developed countries [4][5][6]. According to global health data, immunization saves the life of nearly three million people each year [7].…”

“…For example, Nikula et al ( 2009 ) conducted focus group discussions and interviews with 40 healthcare professionals, students, and clients and reported that vaccinators' professional conduct, education, client conduct, and vaccination environment impact vaccination. Kalaij et al ( 2021 ) analyzed 16 relevant research articles in three databases (PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane) on factors associated with childhood vaccination in Southeast Asia. They identified that parental, personal-related, children and family status-related, socioeconomic, and healthcare-related factors strongly influence subjects' immunization.…”
