Factors Influencing Donation Intention to Personal Medical Crowdfunding Projects Appearing on MSNS

Abstract: This purpose of this study is to develop a research model by extending the theory of planned behavior in a new application context, and applies it to investigate the extrinsic factors influencing people’s attitude towards donating to medical crowdfunding projects appearing on mobile social networking sites (MSNS) and their intention to donate. A survey of 356 Chinese users was conducted and structural equation modeling was used to validate the proposed model and hypotheses. The results indicate that project in… Show more

“…This study applied the theory of planned behaviour in the research of marriage intention, enriching the explanatory and predictive power of the theory of planned behaviour, and explored the motivations of Chinese college students to enter marriage in the future. Structural equation model analyses showed that behavioural attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioural control all had significant positive impacts on marriage intention, which is consistent with previous findings (Ajzen, 1991 ; Canova et al, 2020 ; Liu et al, 2022 ); thus, hypotheses 1–3 were valid.…”

“…Artificial intelligence technology is gradually affecting all aspects of our lives. Swarm intelligence evolutionary algorithms can deal with problems such as nonderivable node transfer functions or the absence of gradient information [ 9 , 10 ]. At the same time, it also promotes the development of all aspects of life [ 11 ].…”

“…Medical crowdfunding campaigns can only be shared on personal social media by the fundraiser at the beginning and then forwarded by "friends" on social media. Other crowdfunding campaigns rely mainly on celebrities to share and spread information, while most retweeters in medical crowdfunding campaigns are ordinary people (Liu et al, 2022;Nisar et al, 2022). Accordingly, while much recent research has focused on charity-based crowdfunding, the findings cannot be easily extended to medical crowdfunding.…”

“…Social media communication greatly influences a successful crowdfunding activity; for example, an extra tweet or retweet can increase the success probability of a medical crowdfunding activity by 1.79% (Aleksina et al, 2019). Mobile social media platforms have become the main sharing channel for medical crowdfunding campaigns (Liu et al, 2022). Some studies have also found that the contribution of sharing donation-based crowdfunding campaigns on social media can be changed over time, and it is most helpful to share in the first ten days of launching the campaigns.…”
