“…The low birth weight rate in this study is by far low compared to the previous studies in Ethiopia where the prevalence of low birth weight ranges from 15 to 20% of all births worldwide to 17.1% in Gondor to 22.5% in Jimma zone health facilities (Resolution World Health Assembly (WHA), 2012; World Health Organization (WHO) 2014; Berihun et al, 2012). On the other hand the 3224.6 ±438.5 mean birth weight of the newborn in this study is higher compared to previous studies 2976 ± 476 g in Gondor and 3094.9 ± 587.6 g in Tigray (Berihun et al, 2012;Tema, 2006;Meresa et al, 2015) and other african country (Mosha and Philemon, 2010). The reason why the mean birth weight is high and the low birth weight is low in this study might be the research is conducted on term pregnancies compared to the other studies where preterms are also included.…”

“…Other studies showed higher proportions of early ANC attendance. 18,20,27 This disparity can be accounted for by difference in study design, time of study and the motivation of the community.…”

“…This result concurred with that of previous studies, 10,20 but was contrary to other studies which showed a lower percentage, 18,19,27 and different from that obtained by Halle and colleagues which showed that a higher proportion attended four or more visits in rural population, and even higher in a semi-urban population. 28 Again, this disparity can be accounted for by study design, sample size, study population, location, and time of study.…”

“…The low level of women's education as observed in the present study has potential negative and indirect effects on child nutrition, feeding patterns and overall improvement of the socio-economic conditions (Huq & Tasnim, 2008). Low level of education is also associated with indirect effects on the understanding of nutrition and food aspects as well as improvement of socio-economic conditions (Mosha & Philemon, 2010). The Tanzania Health Survey (TDHS, 2010) report showed the likelihood of children being fed appropriately increases with mother's education.…”
