Factors influencing the selection of delay analysis methodologies

Abstract: Delays and disruption to contractors' progress are a major source of claims and disputes in the construction industry. Often at the heart of the matter in dispute is the question of the extent of each contracting party's responsibility for the project delay. Various delay analysis methodologies have been developed over the years as aids to answering this question. This paper reports on a study into the factors that influence analysts' selection from these methodologies. Eighteen factors were identified through… Show more

“…However, it is based on what can be considered as highly subjective views and assumptions. While it is relatively easy to perform, it requires analysts to have relevant experience and it may not be sufficient to deal with concurrent delays or the dynamic nature of critical path (Braimah and Ndekugri 2008).…”

“…Moreover, many studies documented the phenomenon of pervasive delays across various types of projects [17,18,19] and in different countries [20,21,22]. Furthermore, a host of delay analysis methods were developed [23,24,25,26], all of which had limitations and exhibited larger or smaller biases toward owner or contractor [27]. This impacts whether they are considered excusable, compensable, both, or not [28,29].…”
