Fair Resource Allocation Based on User Satisfaction in Multi-OLT Virtual Passive Optical Network

Abstract: In this paper, a fair resource allocation mechanism based on user satisfaction in multiple optical line terminal (multi-OLT) virtual passive optical network (VPON) is proposed. By introducing user satisfaction functions, the satisfaction of users can be quantified. By presenting multi-OLT VPON in metroaccess optical network (MAON), different priority services can be effectively handled separately. Based on user satisfaction, a fair resource allocation mechanism called double fair dynamic bandwidth allocation s… Show more

“…With an eye on the strategic functionality for the traffic of new services, the literature has shown that the metro and access segments have been planned together [52], [86], [87]. The Hub-and-Spoke (HnS) logical topology [84] is a proposal in which some nodes are designated as a hub, and works as a communication vehicle and aggregator between the other nodes, which are then designated as spoke. In this case, the hub nodes are represented by metro-aggregation nodes that associate the spoke nodes represented as access nodes.…”

“…QoS value is measured by user perception and contains four metrics: delay satisfaction, bandwidth satisfaction, jitter satisfaction, and packet loss rate satisfaction. Referring to References 18,19, the satisfaction function is represented by a sigmoid function. The sigmoid function can flexibly control the shape of the function by adjusting the parameters, so that it conforms to the influence trend of the QoS metrics on the network performance.…”

“…URRENTLY, the researches on resource allocation in passive optical network (PON) are mainly focused on two aspects. One is resource allocation based on traffic prediction [1][2][3][4], and the other is resource allocation based on user satisfaction [5][6]. In the researches of resource allocation based on traffic prediction, it can be divided into researches based on linear prediction and researches based on nonlinear prediction.…”

“…N. Merayo et al proposed a fair extra dynamic bandwidth allocation (FEx DBA) algorithm in long-reach PON to maximize network utility [5]. N. Zhan et al proposed a dualfair bandwidth allocation algorithm based on multi-level user satisfaction in multi-service VPON to optimize user satisfaction [6]. The resource allocation based on user satisfaction obtains the optimal solution of bandwidth allocation by solving a user satisfaction model, so as to optimize the comprehensive user satisfaction.…”
