False positivity of FDG‐PET/CT in a child with Hodgkin disease

Abstract: Role of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) with F-18-2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG) in staging of Hodgkin disease is well established despite several controversies. We report a Stage III Hodgkin lymphoma patient with false positive FDG-PET/CT results. Seven-year-old male with Hodgkin lymphoma was in remission at end of chemotherapy. At third and fourth month of postchemotherapy follow-up, increased Gallium uptake and positive FDG-PET/CT in right lower quadrant of abdomen was observed. Open biopsy revealed ly… Show more

“…An open biopsy, however, revealed nodal RFH [6]. Similar findings were observed by Beker et al [2] in a 7-year-old child with Hodgkin lymphoma. The patient was considered cured, but 18 F-FDG uptake in the abdomen was observed, which microscopically revealed RFH.…”

“…A retrospective study [8,9] was done to compare the performance of PET/ low-dose CT and diagnostic CT in the follow-up of children with lymphoma. The data collected consisted of nodal and extra-nodal disease in the neck, chest, abdomen, and pelvis, as well as incidental findings.…”
