Familial and societal causes of juvenile obesity—a qualitative model on obesity development and prevention in socially disadvantaged children and adolescents

Abstract: Aim The issue of excess weight and obesity among our young people is currently under discussion as one of the most serious problems in public health. Extensive work has been done to analyse the problem, to indicate the drivers, and to create prevention programmes. Much research remains to be done in the field of modelling the complex impact network of familial and societal influences on juvenile obesity. To achieve this, the forecasts and results issued by the various disciplines must be integrated. The aim of… Show more

“…CIB analysis is a way to understand the network of effects, and ScenarioWizard is a tool that receives quantified qualitative judgments and provides more appropriate scenarios. This method and tool have been already used in international research on future studies and management in various fields, such as water management (Schütze et al , 2011), environmental change (Schweizer and Kriegler, 2012), health (Weimer-Jehle et al , 2012), socioeconomic development (Schweizer and O’Neill, 2014) and climate change (Schweizer and Kurniawan, 2016). To identify possible scenarios, experts were first asked to assess the extent to which key uncertainties were affecting each other.…”

“…CIB analysis is a method for the systematic construction of traceable qualitative and semi-quantitative scenarios, but also for qualitative network analysis [37,38]. CIB has been applied to a broad range of research questions, including the analyses of energy system transitions (see, e.g., [39][40][41]), studies on sustainability aspects [42], innovation [43], health care [44], and on climate change policies (e.g., [45,46]).…”

“…Initially, CIB was developed and used to construct future scenarios [58][59][60][61][62][63]. However, CIB also proved useful for qualitative forms of systems analysis [64,65], and recently, CIB has been transferred to the realm of policy design [52]. The main idea of this new application consists of considering goal conflicts on the level of policies to reach these goals and using the CIB balance algorithm to optimize all goals at the same time.…”
