“…Doctors of chiropractic are beginning to refer patients for smoking cessation and providing information regarding their state's Quitline and for counseling for alcohol and illicit drug use as well as offering counseling, nutritional advice, and exercises for patients with obesity, and these are examples of chiropractors acting as change agents for wellness and prevention within their own practices. 3,5,165,166 Doctors of chiropractic may also act as change agents for public health within their local communities. This may be done by serving on or creating a community health committee, working with other local stakeholders (eg, local government aldermen, school principals, nurses, public health officials, senior citizen groups, health educators, physical education instructors, bike groups, running/jogging groups, parks and recreation department directors, chamber of commerce, medical physicians, family nurse practitioners) to garner support for ordinances or legislation.…”
