“…Similar to prior studies (Zulauf-McCurdy & Zinsser, 2021, 2022), this study indicates that trust with school personnel may act as a protective factor against being referred to the office or being suspended. As such, findings from this study add to the already strong rationale to invest in and implement school-level policies and practices that welcome all families, especially those from socioeconomically and educationally marginalized backgrounds, and aim to build trustworthy and positive relations with school staff (Galindo & Pucino, 2012; Galindo & Sheldon, 2012). In particular, districts and schools should increase their focus on improving the quality of programs to partner with parents, especially Black parents and parents whose children are eligible for special education accommodations.…”
