Since the early 1990s, a number of behavior therapies have been developed under the umbrella of the “third wave.” These therapies include acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, contextual anger regulation therapy, and mode deactivation therapy. These four therapies have differing levels of application and empirical support with regard to the treatment to violence and aggression. This chapter reviews these third wave therapies in the treatment of violence and aggression. We describe each therapy and the existing evidence for its efficacy, evaluate the current research as a whole, and give suggestions for future research in this area.
