Fast Prediction for Resistance Spot Welding Deformation Using Inherent Strain Method and Nugget Model

Abstract: In a car body, there exist thousands of resistance spot welds, which may induce large deformation during the manufacturing process. Therefore, it is expected that automotive industries will develop a method and a computing system for the fast and simple prediction of its deformation. Although the inherent strain method has been used for the fast prediction of arc welding deformation, it has not been applied to resistance spot welding so far. Additionally, the electrical-thermal-mechanical coupling analysis for… Show more

“…Zhou, Hong [16,17] et al combined the thermoelastic-plastic finite element method with the inherent deformation finite element method, accurately predicted the out-of-plane buckling behavior of typical marine plate girder welded structure with ortho-cross reinforcement, and studied the influence of welding sequence on the outward welding deformation. Chino T [18] et al used the inherent strain method to quickly predict the deformation of resistance spot welding, and effectively predicted the deformation of automobile parts with 23 resistance spot welding within about 90 min. Compared with the test measurement, the prediction model has good accuracy.…”

“…Experimental validation demonstrated the feasibility and high efficiency of the immune clonal algorithm in double-sided welding sequence optimization. Chino et al [20] employed the inherent strain method for the fast and efficient prediction of welding deformation in an automotive component with 23 resistance spot welds, demonstrating good reliability and accuracy compared to the actual measurement.…”
