Whispering gallery modes (WGMs) of light within a microscale modified add‐drop filter circuit has shown the interesting results, which can be formed for various sensing applications. The input waves (lights) into the sensing system can be a Gaussian pulse, which can induce the nonlinear coupling effects to the center ring by the two nonlinear side rings. By using the practical parameters, the simulation results are obtained by using the Optiwave program, which have shown the promising indication that the changes in phases between two WGMs can be used to perform the sensing applications, where the flow rate sensor, temperature sensors and medical sensors can be configured and used, which are discussed in details. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
