Abstract:The concept of "fast track" has not yet been established in orthopaedic trauma surgery. Principles such as those used in the "fast track" procedure for abdominal surgery have been employed in orthopaedic surgery for a long time. The best results can be achieved by early operative treatment, stable osteosynthesis and, if the soft tissues allow, an early initiation of mobilization under optimal pain management.
