“…The widespread occurrence of intI 1 and bla CTX-M genes in Enterobacteriaceae (e.g. E. coli and K. pneumoniae ) has been demonstrated [53,54,55], which might explain the strong correlations observed between these genes and presumptive total and fecal coliforms populations observed here. Interestingly, correlations between antibiotic resistant fecal populations and the analysed genes, were not among the strongest.…”

“…The bacterial strains E. coli [58] and S. Typhimurium (ATCC 13311) were used in this study as phage hosts. E. coli Scc 09, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 40, 41, 43, 45, 47, 48, 50, 51, 52, 53, 55, 56, 58, 69, 77, 78, and 91 were isolated from an urban wastewater treatment plant [59]. Five S. Enteriditis strains were isolated from food samples and gently provided by Controlvet Laboratory.…”

“…The antibiotics concentrations used followed the CLSI guidelines (2015), although taking into consideration previous experience of studies with environmental samples and aiming at the future characterization of the isolates (Tacão et al, 2014;Silva et al, 2018). Of note, is the use of 1 mg/L of ciprofloxacin, instead of 4 mg/L, the CLSI minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC).…”
