Fatigue and blood pressure in primary Sjögren's syndrome

Abstract: The MFI-20 was found to be a reliable and valid tool for the measurement of fatigue in primary SS. High levels of fatigue were correlated with low BP, suggesting an associated involvement of the autonomic nervous system.

“…The score range of each dimension is 4 to 20 29. The MFI-20 was tested and validated in several patient groups,29 including patients with Sjögren's syndrome 3 12 30. In the current study, Cronbach's alpha ranged between 80 for reduced motivation and 91 for mental fatigue in the Sjögren's group, and between 84 (reduced motivation and reduced activity) and 93 (general fatigue) in the control group.…”

“…In most independent studies, satisfactory results were also obtained, with values usually well above 0.7 for subscales and above 0.9 for the total score,110 although values <0.70 have occasionally been reported 113, 114, 117. The test–retest reliability of the MFI was tested in various patient groups and generally was good, with intraclass correlation coefficients and test–retest correlations ranging from 0.50 to 0.85 110, 113, 115, 121, 127. Neither internal consistency nor test–retest reliability have been assessed in PD.…”

“…When a single score on fatigue severity is required results of the General fatigue subscale is recommended by the authors . Indeed, the General fatigue subscale has been shown to have the highest correlation with general scales assessing fatigue severity in other long‐term conditions . Higher scores indicate higher fatigue.…”
