“…Low cycle fatigue tests in tension and compression along the transverse direction have been computed for both the unirradiated and the irradiated material, in agreement with the low cycle fatigue tests performed by Wisner et al [39]. The first thirty and a quarter cycles are computed at a fixed total strain amplitude (where the term ''amplitude" refers to half of the total peak-to-peak excursion according to [75], convention used in [39]) of E = 1% for the unirradiated material and E = 0.9% for the irradiated material. The stress-plastic strain curves are shown in Fig.…”

This report covers a study of the effects brought upon the mechanical response of vibration compacting cladding tubes by differences in the powder loading.. The fundamental frequency of the tube decreases with increasing mass of powder loadmg. This relation can be explained by assuming that the mass of powder is rigidly fixed to the tube wall. The peak magnification factor at resonance also decreases ":ith increasing pow.der. m~ss. The maximum intensity of stress is found at the bottom of the claddmg and the stress d1stnbutwn is sinusoidal.Random wave vibration produces in the cladding tube a peak stress only about half the intensity of that by sinusoidal wave of the same root mean square level, and rna! thus b~ a promising approach to effective compaction with smaller stresses imparted to the claddmg matenal.
“…A hypothetical mean stress curve was developed using the process used to develop the I-9.5 mean stress curve. 1 A paper by O'Donnell and Langer 5 shows the development of the maximum mean stress correction for Zr in detail and the method has been used for analysis of Alloy 617. The method utilizes the Goodman diagram with maximum mean stress equation…”
