“…The main component contained in the sterol fraction was cholesterol and the minor constituents were cholesta‐5,22‐dien‐3β‐ol, cholesta‐5,24‐dien‐3β‐ol, 24‐methylenecholest‐5‐en‐3β‐ol, and 24‐ethylidenecholest‐5‐en‐3β‐ol. Fricke and Oehlenschlaeger 63 identified cholesterol, desmosterol, and 22‐dehydrocholesterol as the main sterol composition of the Antarctic amphipod, Themisto gaudichaudii .…”

“…The increased percent value of the neutral lipid in the embryo may be due to the presence of glycerol, free fatty acids (unpublished data), and different carotenoids (Kour and Subramonium, 1992). Cholesterol was found to be the dominant sterol in many crustaceans (Ikekawa, 1985;Fricke and Oehlenschlager, 1988). In E. asiatica, 4% of the neutral lipid fraction of the I stage embryo was composed of cholesterol ( Table 2), but the amount is slightly lower in the Lv I1 (3% of the neutral lipid fraction).…”
