Fatty-acid metabolism in senescing and regreening soybean cotyledons

Abstract: Changes in fatty-acid metabolism were studied in soybean (Glycine max Merr.) cotyledons during senescence as well as in cotyledons which had been caused to regreen by removal of the epicotyl from the seedling. The activities of the enzymes acetyl-CoA synthetase (EC 6.2.1.1) and fatty-acid synthetase in plastids isolated from the cotyledons decreased during senescence but increased in response to regreening.
