“…As far as we know, there are no reports on the fatty acid composition of the fats of these fur seals and sea lions, and we have yet not obtained a sample to analyse it for the reasons stated above. Yet comparison with fatty acids of Californian sea lions, such as Zalophus californianus, indicate that they contain saturated pentadecanoic (C 15:0 ) and heptadecanoic (C 17:0 ) acids and the monounsaturated acids palmitoleic (C 16:1 ) and heptadecenoic (C 17:1 ) in their lipids (Castro-Gonzá lez et al, 2003).
