Fault Detection and Diagnosis of Winding Short in BLDC Motors Based on Fuzzy Similarity

Abstract: The turn-to-turn short is one major fault of the motor faults of BLDC motors and can appear frequently. When the fault happens, the motor can be operated without breakdown, but it is necessary to maintain the motor for continuous working. In past research, several methods have been applied to detect winding faults. The representative approaches have been focusing on current signals, which can give important information to extract features and to detect faults. In this study, current sensors were installed to m… Show more

“…More details about RMI theory can be referred in literature. 11,12 SBM SBM is a nonparametric empirical modeling technology which can be widely used for equipment health monitoring, 13 fault diagnosis 14 and prognosis, 7,[15][16][17] the main idea of SBM theory can be expressed as: if an operating unit has similar recent performance with a reference unit, then they are likely to share similar RUL. 16 The RUL of the operating unit can be estimated through weighted sum of the RULs of reference units.…”

“…It is well-known that FD techniques can be applied using various types of signals for electric machinery. For example, in papers [14][15][16][17], phase current [18], angular velocity or temperature [19]. Vibration signal is widely used for FD applications in electrical machinery.…”

“…Three new algorithms for the detection BLDC motors faults are proposed that can track and detect rotor faults in non-stationary or transient current signals [8]. Park's vector method was used to extract the features and to isolate the BLDC motors faults from the current measured by sensors [9]. Proposed a model of a fault diagnosis expert system with high reliability to compare identical well-functioning BLDC motors [10].…”
