The specific status of limnological characteristics and diversity of zooplankton in Durgadahalli and Mydala Lakes have been studied in the period 2017-19. Diversity of zooplankton in the selected two lakes identified 35 species of zooplankton. In Durgadahalli lake 20 species were recorded, of which 14 are rotifers, 4 are cladoceraus and 2 are copepods. Among the rotifers, family Brachionidae reported as highest number of species (11 species), of which Genus Brachionus contain 08 species. Similarly, in Mydala lake recorded 26 species of zooplankton among which 17 are rotifers, 7 are cladoceraus and 2 are copepods. In rotifers, family Brachionidae contains high number of species (10 species), in which Genus Brachionus (08 species) represents the highest number. Most commonly occurring species are Brachionus angularis, B. caudatus, Keratellatropica, Filinia longiseta, Ceriodaphnia cornuta, Ceriodaphniacornuta, Diaphanosomasarsi and Moina micrura. The highest zooplankton population was recorded in rotifera and lesser in copepod in both the lakes. The water remained moderately alkaline (pH 7.07 and pH 7.27) while Biochemical Oxygen Demand (3.0 mg/l each), Dissolved Oxygen (7.5 mg/l and 5.32 mg/l), TDS (167 mg/l and 272 mg/l), chloride (15 mg/l and 27.5 mg/l), hardness (40 mg/l and 81.5 mg/l) showed low mean values respectively.

Fish biodiversity, a significant part of the aquatic ecosystem, has been studied widely in India. However, the distribution and diversity of fish species have not been well-researched at the state and/or regional levels. Karnataka is bestowed with 8% of the country’s water resources, which are under extreme pressure because of unregulated population growth, biological invasion, and developmental requirements. Since the middle of the nineteenth century, India has been introducing alien species to its water bodies. Currently, 13.6% of the fish diversity in India is exotic and has been established voluntarily or involuntarily for various purposes. The establishment of invasive alien fishes negatively influences native fish communities around the globe. In general, most publications present the latest status of ichthyofauna in several regions of Karnataka; however, there is no up-to-date documentation on strategic environmental developments and unforeseen challenges, such as invasive alien species (IAS). This study reconstructs existing knowledge while analytically reviewing challenges, potential management techniques, advancements, and the impacts of climate change and disseminates the data necessary for the comprehension of the biological invasion of IAS.

This review examines the integration of remote sensing technologies and machine learning models for efficient monitoring and management of lake water quality. It critically evaluates the performance of various satellite platforms, including Landsat, Sentinel-2, MODIS, RapidEye, and Hyperion, in assessing key water quality parameters including chlorophyll-a (Chl-a), turbidity, and colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM). This review highlights the specific advantages of each satellite platform, considering factors like spatial and temporal resolution, spectral coverage, and the suitability of these platforms for different lake sizes and characteristics. In addition to remote sensing platforms, this paper explores the application of a wide range of machine learning models, from traditional linear and tree-based methods to more advanced deep learning techniques like convolutional neural networks (CNNs), recurrent neural networks (RNNs), and generative adversarial networks (GANs). These models are analyzed for their ability to handle the complexities inherent in remote sensing data, including high dimensionality, non-linear relationships, and the integration of multispectral and hyperspectral data. This review also discusses the effectiveness of these models in predicting various water quality parameters, offering insights into the most appropriate model–satellite combinations for different monitoring scenarios. Moreover, this paper identifies and discusses the key challenges associated with data quality, model interpretability, and integrating remote sensing imagery with machine learning models. It emphasizes the need for advancements in data fusion techniques, improved model generalizability, and the developing robust frameworks for integrating multi-source data. This review concludes by offering targeted recommendations for future research, highlighting the potential of interdisciplinary collaborations to enhance the application of these technologies in sustainable lake water quality management.
