“…Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), by virtue of bearing aromatic donor ligands and metals of high oxidation states, could facilitate photoinduced charge separation and, due to the unique porous architecture with the exceptionally high surface area, can offer huge potential in photocatalysis. − MIL-101­(Cr) is a unique MOF having large porosity and can be synthesized very efficiently using terephthalic acid as a ligand . By introducing another amine moiety in terephthalic acid in the form of 2-aminoterephthalic acid, one can enhance the electron-donating ability of the ligand and thereby reduce the band gap of the resulting MOF, so that it can act as an efficient photocatalyst under visible light irradiation. As a part of our on-going research activities toward developing visible light-assisted CO 2 activation and conversion, we herein report an efficient, simple, clean, and environmentally benign methodology for thiocarboxylation of olefins using CO 2 and thiols using an Fe­(III)-containing MOF (Fe-MIL-101-NH 2 ) as a photocatalyst without using any base under visible light irradiation at room temperature and atmospheric pressure conditions (Scheme ).…”
