Feasibility Study of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavements (RAP) as Recycled Aggregates Used in Rigid Pavement Construction

Abstract: Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) as recycled aggregates is a relatively new construction process of rigid pavements due to the scarcity and degradation of natural aggregates. This study aims at the sequential characterization of RAP aggregate to obtain optimized proportions for strength. For this purpose, RAP aggregates were used for the replacement of natural aggregates (NA) in the concrete mix which was achieved by varying from 0–100%. Furthermore, zirconia silica fume (ZSF) was used as a partial replacement… Show more

“…The deviations between the theoretical TG and the test values of RAB-RH mixtures were selected to evaluate the interactions [39]. Assuming that there were no interactions during the co-pyrolysis of RAB and RH, theoretical values were calculated using Equation (3). Deviation values (%) were subsequently calculated using Equation (2) to evaluate the interaction degree.…”

“…As asphalt pavements near the end of their service life, a significant volume of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) is generated globally due to the extensive maintenance and rehabilitation of deteriorated road surfaces [1]. The disposal of this substantial RAP waste has garnered significant public attention, driven by increasingly stringent environmental protection and sustainable development policies [2,3]. RAP typically contains approximately 4-6% binder and high-quality aggregate [4], and the reclaimed asphalt binder (RAB) is derived from bitumen recycled from RAP materials [5].…”

“…Incorporating pond ash was proven by (Gupta and Kumar 2016;Karthikeyan et al, 2017). The reclaimed asphalt pavement materials as aggregates in flexible road construction and soil stabilization for roads and other types of construction can reduce environmental stress and the exploitation of natural resources (Rout et al, 2023;Plati et al, 2022). Granular sub-base material (GSB) is recommended as a matrix material suitable for bridge work and road works.…”

“…Traffic parking maintenance will seriously affect traffic function and cause adverse social impacts [4][5][6]. Therefore, the research on the pavement performance of steel deck pavement systems, especially on the fatigue damage characteristics, has certain theoretical value and engineering significance [7][8][9]. Fatigue performance determines the service life length of steel-deck pavement structures under normal working conditions, and the accurate prediction of fatigue life is crucial to the structural strength design [10,11].…”
