Feasibility Study on an Application of Scintillation Fiber Imager to Realtime Range Monitoring System for Carbon Ion Therapy

Abstract: A feasibility study of an application of scintillation fiber imager to realtime range monitoring system for particle therapy was carried out. Monte Carlo simulation using PHITS suggested that reconstructed vertex distribution shows good correlation with Bragg peak depth, which could allow us to perform realtime range monitoring. As a performance test, scintillation fiber imager successfully provided 2D image of proton beam.
