“…It can be suggested that H. marinum chromosome 7H m carries a red coleoptile allele at the orthologous locus Rc-H m 1. This gives additional support to the conclusion made earlier by Pershina et al (2009) that H. marinum chromosome 7H m possesses an ability to compensate for absence of chromosome 7D of common wheat. Because it, as well as the Aegilops Rc-S1 alleles originating from Ae.…”

“…The aim of the current study was to find potential sources of 'strong' Rc alleles conferring very high levels of anthocyanin production and to study the effect of genetic background on Rc expression. Wheat genetic stock collections, intraspecific wheat (Kuspira and Unrau 1958) and wheat-alien (Silkova et al 2006;Troubacheeva et al 2008;Pershina et al 2009) chromosome substitution lines and wheat-alien chromosome addition lines (Driscoll and Sears 1971;Friebe et al 1993Friebe et al , 1995Friebe et al , 2000 are good models to investigate this issue, as they can be used in comparative analyses of gene expression in different genetic backgrounds. Furthermore, since common wheat relatives can be a potential source of useful genes, analysis of wheat-alien lines carrying Rc genes originating from different species may result in the discovery of more desirable alleles.…”

“…The salt tolerance of the wheat-H. marinum amphiploid was intermediate to that of its parents (Islam et al 2007). Alloplasmic wheat-barley substitution and addition lines were produced by Pershina et al (2009) from H. marinum ssp. gussoneanum Huds.…”

“…For instance, in nearly isogenic lines a significant negative effect of Gpc B1 (from T. dicoccoides) on MTG of grains and test weight of grains [87,88] was recorded. Interestingly, in alloplasmatic line with substitution of chromosomes 1H mar (1B), 5H mar (5D), 7H mar (7D) and alloplasmatic ditelosomic supplemented line 7HL mar , the protein content in grain is higher than in the culti var of common wheat Pyrotrix 28, which Pershina et al [89] explain by the influence of chromosomes of wild barley H. marinum subsp. gussoneanum.…”
