Features of Plantar Pressure Distribution of Children with Spastic Diplegia

Abstract

ABSTRACT. The aim of this study was to investigate the features of plantar pressure distribution of children with spastic diplegia. Totally, 18 spastic diplegia children (SDCP) and 36 typical developed counterparts (TD) with matching age, height and weight were recruited. Their plantar pressure distributions were measured and analyzed. Three-masks model was first used to divide the foot regions: forefoot, midfoot and hindfoot, then the relative contact time (CTrel) (%), peak pressure (PP) 2 (N/cm ), relative pressure time integral (PTIrel) (%) and relative contact area (CA) (%) were calculated. Our outcomes show that pressure variables were significantly higher than those of TD in most regions, with the exception of PP; further, a prolonged first PP curve was obtained for SDCP in the double support phase. At last, all data of SDCP were moderate for the most of variables and regions. Thereby, features of SDCP children are shown below: no bimodal pressure curve was obtained and they usually performed with valgus deformities, so that midfoot was used as a major loading area. Scopul acestui studiu a fost de a investiga caracteristicile distribuþiei presiunii plantare la copiii cu diplegie spasticã. S-au recrutat în total 18 copii cu diplegie spasticã (PC) ºi 36 copii cu dezvoltare normalã (TD), cu vârstã, înãlþime ºi greutate similare. S-a mãsurat ºi analizat distribuþia presiunii plantare. Mai întâi s-a utilizat modelul cu trei zone de analizã pentru a împãrþi regiunile piciorului în: antepicior, zona centralã ºi retropicior, apoi s-au calculat timpul de contact relativ 2 (CTrel) (%), presiunea maximã (PP) (N/cm ), integrala relativã presiune-timp (PTIrel) (%) ºi zona de contact relativã (CA) (%). Rezultatele aratã cã variabilele de presiune au fost semnificativ mai mari decât cele ale grupei TD în majoritatea regiunilor, cu excepþia PP; mai mult, s-a obþinut o primã curbã PP prelungitã pentru grupa PC în faza de sprijin dublu. În cele din urmã, toate datele obþinute pentru grupa PC au fost moderate pentru majoritatea variabilelor ºi regiunilor. Astfel, caracteristicile subiecþilor cu PC sunt urmãtoarele: la copiii cu PC nu s-a obþinut o curbã de presiune bimodalã ºi, în general, aceºtia au prezentat deformãri de tip valgus, astfel încât cea mai mare presiune s-a constatat în regiunea MF.
