Fecal Calprotectin: Diagnostic Accuracy of the Immunochromatographic CalFast Assay in a Pediatric Population

Abstract: The immunochromatographic assay demonstrated good diagnostic predictive values, comparable to those of the ELISA methods, and may represent a valid alternative in order to save operators' time. The test, in fact, has a short turnaround time and does not need a specific ELISA instrumentation.

“…On-site tests for FC measurement (12)(13)(14)(15)(16)(17) have further been developed to home tests that use smartphone cameras and Internet connections, namely the IBDoc 1 and the CalproSmart. The benefit of home testing is that the FC result may be available to both the patient and physician within 2 hours of stool sampling.…”

“…As commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) tests that measure FC are time-consuming, new innovations have been developed for FC testing on-site (12)(13)(14)(15)(16)(17) or at home, namely the IBDoc 1 Home Test (Bu ¨hlman Laboratories AG, Scho ¨nenbuch/Basel, Switzerland) and the CalproSmart (Calpro As, Lysaker, Norway). These tests utilize smartphone applications to interconnect with a test-specific Internet portal to produce an immediate result.…”
