Fecal Microbiota Transplantation in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Abstract: Inflammatory bowel diseases represent a complex array of diseases of incompletely known etiology that led to gastrointestinal tract chronic inflammation. In inflammatory bowel disease, a promising method of treatment is represented by fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), FMT has shown its increasing effectiveness and safety in recent years for recurrent CDI; moreover, it showed real clinical benefits in treating SARS-CoV-2 and CDI co-infection. Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are characterized by imm… Show more

“…Notably, these molecules are very important in containing and preventing the spread of Mtb. Studies outline the heightened vulnerability to the spread of atypical mycobacterial infections that present changes in signaling the IL-12/IL-23/IFN-γ pathway, which can result in severe infections and even multidrug resistance among infected patients [ 10 , 11 ].…”

“…These receptors are involved in recognizing specific components of a microbial origin, thereby initiating immune responses. Their involvement suggests a shared mechanism in the initial phases of both diseases [ 10 , 12 , 13 ]. Specific populations have shown susceptibility to CD due to the dis-regulation of the NOD2 gene [ 14 ].…”

“…Patients experience serious discomfort and longterm complications. The two main subtypes are Crohn's disease (CD) and Ulcerative colitis (UC) distinguished by disease location and histology findings [2,3]. Diagnosis of IBDs is challenging [4] and involves a multifaceted approach, including clinical examination and specialized tests such as histology and radiology [5].…”
