Fedor Krause (1857-1937): the father of German neurosurgery

Abstract: Rightfully regarded as the father of German neurosurgery, Fedor Krause made a major contribution not only in world neurosurgery, but also in medicine. The aim of this paper is to highlight once more the significance and importance of Fedor Krause’s work and exceptional human quality.

“…Впервые ламинэктомия с целью декомпрессии корешков конского хвоста была проведена, по разным данным, Victor Horsley или William MacEwen в 1887 г. Первая дискэктомия была выполнена хирургом Fedor Krause в 1908 г. Операция включала следующие этапы: разрез по средней линии, скелетирование дужек позвонков, резекцию последних, трансдуральное удаление патологического образования.
