“…Özaydın (unpublished * ) stated that the diet of the majority of P. acarne included Polychaeta, Mysidacea, Decapoda, and Amphipoda, throughout the Aegean Sea. However, Rizkalla et al (1999) reported that crustaceans, teleosts, and echinoderms constituted the main food items of axillary seabream in the Egyptian Mediterranean Waters. According to Morato et al (2001) the diet of 38 axillary seabream specimens with 21.0-28.0 cm FL from the north-eastern Atlantic, consisted of a wide variety of small organisms, mainly fishes and several invertebrates (Thaliacea and Ophiuroidea).…”

“…Although there were many studies on its growth and reproduction (Phâń and Kompowski 1972, Andaloro 1982, Domanevskaya and Patokina 1985, Santos et al 1995, Greco et al 1995, Stergiou et al 1997, Tosunoğlu et al 1997, Pajuelo and Lorenzo 2000, Coelho et al 2005, Abecasis et al 2008, Velasco et al 2011, Dragičević et al 2012, Soykan et al 2015, information regarding its feeding is scarce and variable in its extent (Rizkalla et al 1999, Morato et al 2001, Fehri-Bedoui et al 2009, Fanelli et al 2011, Dragičević et al 2015.…”

“…Sixteen fish species were identified in its diet of which Spicara smaris and Spicara flexuosa (Family: Centracanthidae) are the main fish prey. Rizkalla (1992) and Faltas (1993) declared that picarels (Family: Centracanthidae) constitute a remarkable percentage in the catch of Egyptian bottom trawlers. The present result shows that S. smaris is eaten in large number during winter.…”

“…Out of 299 trawling operations in Alexandria Mediterranean waters, the cephalopods are represented about 9.8 % of the total fish catch landing, of which 6.1 % cuttlefishes, 3.5 % octopuses and 0.21 % squids (Riad, 1993). Investigation of 149 trawling operations in Alexandria Mediterranean waters in the period from 1986-1988, cuttlefishes, octopuses and squids were found to represent 6.13, 1.47 and 0.09 %, respectively of the total catch (Rizkalla, 1992). Worth mentioning is that the squid catch represents less than 10% of the total annual landing from the Egyptian Fishers (Riad and AbdEl-Hafez, 2008).…”
