Feeding sundried cassava leaf meal as a replacement for de‐oiled rice bran in the diets of rohu, L abeo rohita , fingerlings: effect on growth, enzyme activities and gene expression of igf‐i and igf‐bpi

Abstract: A 75‐day feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the nutritional implication of feeding diets containing graded levels of sundried cassava leaf meal (SCLM) to Labeo rohita fingerlings. Four isonitrogenous (300 g/kg crude protein) and isoenergetic (18 MJ/kg) diets were prepared by replacing de‐oiled rice bran (DORB) with 0 (diet 1), 130 (diet 2), 260 (diet 3) and 390 g/kg (diet 4) of SCLM. The diets were fed to the triplicate groups of L. rohita fingerlings (average weight, 2.03 ± 0.03 g) in a completely random… Show more

“…The Digestive enzymes break the complex nutrients to simple one making them available either for maintenance and growth or for energy production in fish (Lemieux et al, 1999). Feeding plant-based diet to fishes influence the digestive enzymes activities and these are related to presence of ANFs and insoluble fibre (Olude et al, 2021). In our study, irrespective of exogenous carbohydrases and limiting amino acids supplementation, protease activity was not altered in LM fed groups.…”

“…Moreover, the growing competitions with livestock feed and human food sector would lower the availability of DORB in near future to aquafeed sector (FAO, 2017). In this context, leafmeals are considered as feasible alternate ingredients for aquafeed production (Hoseinifar et al, 2017; Anand et al, 2020; Nottanalan et al, 2021; Olude et al, 2021; Sajina et al, 2020). According to Naylor et al (2009), an alternate feedstock must be nutritional compatible, easily available, low priced and perform better growth performance.…”

“…However, other leafmeals such as sundried cassava ( Manihot esculenta ) and bioprocessed pistia leaf meal could be incorporated at 166.5 g kg −1 and 200 g kg −1 inclusion level, respectively, in L . rohita diets (Mandal & Ghosh, 2019; Olude et al, 2021). Fermented Sesbania leaf meal could be added at 150 g kg −1 inclusion in diet of Cyprinus carpio (Anand et al, 2020).…”
