Show more

“…This finding also applies to the difference in diameters of the arterial and venous capillary branches of approx. 30% [12]. Capillary densities (minipig: 8.2 capillaries per mm; human: 8.9 capillaries per mm [13]), ranging between 8 and 9 capillaries per mm, were also comparable and correlated very well with the minimum capillary density found for other mammals with spatial intervals of about 100 µm between each capillary [3], which is regarded as sufficient to provide the surrounding tissue with oxygen via diffusion.…”

“…Since only the erythrocytes are visible due to the absorption of green light by hemoglobin, it is not possible to determine capillary diameters by non-invasive intravital microscopy [12]. Erythrocyte column diameters, however, were almost identical (minipig: 13.3 ± 2.1 µm; human: 14.0 ± 3.2 µm [13]).…”

“…Intraindividual variability of v RBC under resting conditions over one day was examined in 8 apparently healthy subjects [19]. The coefficient of variation (CV) of v RBC in nailfold capillaries under resting conditions was CV = 23.4% ± 7.8%.…”

“…There were no significant differences between the four samples (p > 0.05). The intraindividual variability of v RBC under resting conditions from day to day was examined in nine apparently healthy subjects [19]. v RBC was measured on five consecutive days in one week at the same time [8 a.m.].…”
