Feline lymphoma: diagnosis, staging and clinical presentations

Abstract: Background: Lymphoma is a neoplasm of the lymphoid tissue, which may present with localised or systemic clinical signs. Unlike dogs that commonly present with multicentric disease, mostly involving the lymphoid organs (eg, lymph nodes), feline lymphoma can present as visceral (eg, spleen/liver/ gut), extranodal (eg, CNS/skin) or nodal in origin, with clinical presentation dependant on the affected organ. This variation in clinical presentation is further complicated by further indolent forms of lymphoma that h… Show more

“…Lymphoma can arise from lymphoid and non-lymphoid tissues throughout the body and can affect various anatomical locations [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ]. The classification of lymphoma in cats is complex, with different subtypes identified based on their biological behavior, cell origin, and anatomical location [ 2 , 6 , 7 ].…”

“…Classification based on anatomical location usually differentiates gastrointestinal or alimentary lymphoma from other extranodal forms (nasopharyngeal, renal, central nervous system, etc. ), and also multicentric (peripheral lymph nodes), mediastinal, and mixed forms [ 2 , 6 , 7 ]. The prevalence of one anatomical form of feline lymphoma versus others is largely influenced by the FeLV status [ 2 , 3 , 8 , 9 , 10 ].…”
