Female genital mutilation – why does it still exist in Africa?

Abstract: Female genital mutilation (FGM) includes all procedures that involve partial or total removal of the external female genitalia for non-medical reasons. FGM is practised in many parts of the world -including 28 African countries, some countries in the Middle East and Asia, and some population groups in Central and South America.
