The aim of this study is to determine the attitudes and metaphorical perceptions of teacher candidate towards individuals with special needs. For this purpose, students at the faculty of education were determined as the study group. The participants of the research are students studying in Special Education Teaching, Mathematics Teaching, Science Teaching, Turkish Language Teaching and Social Studies Teaching programs. The quantitative data of the study were collected from 212 and qualitative data from 196 teacher candidates. The quantitative data of the study were obtained with the 13-item attitude scale developed by Yaralı (2015). In order to collect qualitative data, the participants were asked to complete the sentence "Individual with special needs is similar to …….. because ……..". In the study, the data were collected and analyzed using the convergent parallel pattern, one of the mixed research methods. The findings obtained as a result of the analyzes were discussed in line with the literature. Quantitative findings show that prospective teachers have positive attitudes towards individuals with special needs. Considering the metaphorical perceptions of the teacher candidates, 33% of the responses are gathered under three themes as individuals in need of attention or care, 29% superior or valuable individuals, and 20% open to development. The results obtained from the study found that teacher candidates mostly have positive attitudes towards individuals with special needs. It was also found as a research finding that teacher candidates who took special education courses had higher attitude scores than those who did not take special education courses.
