“…Basit et al [ 56 ] isolated 3 strains of Bacillus cereus from garden soil whose lipopeptide biosurfactants exhibited significant antibacterial and antifungal activity against S. aureus , Escherichia coli , P. aeruginosa , K. pneumoniae , Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans , with MIC values ranging from 0.52 to 7.6 mg/mL. More recently, Medeot et al [ 57 ] demonstrated that fengycin form Bacillus amyloliquefaciens MEP218 was able to induce dramatic alterations in the surface topography of the opportunistic human pathogen P. aeruginosa PA01, leading to a decrease in cell height and loss in intracellular content. The surfactin and rhamnolipids mixtures produced by B. amyloliquefaciens ST34 and P. aeruginosa ST5, respectively, showed a pronounced antimicrobial activity against a broad spectrum of opportunistic and pathogenic microorganisms, including antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains, such as S. aureus and E. coli and the yeast C. albicans [ 58 ].…”

“…For instance, the bactericidal effect of fengycins from B. amyloliquefaciens MEP218 on X. axonopodis pv. vesicatoria and P. aeruginosa PA01 was documented by Medeot et al [ 27 ]. Our analyses showed that the 13 ionic forms belong to the lipopeptide fengycin ( Supplementary Table S1 ).…”

“…The other two lipopeptides, fengycin and bacillomycin, were produced in the dual culture at respective maximal concentrations of 2.0 ± 0.4 µg/mL and 1.6 ± 0.3 µg/mL. Purified bacillomycin and fengycin lipopeptides were shown to exhibit the antibiotic activity in the range of concentrations of 2–32 µg/mL and 6.25 µg/mL, respectively [ 27 , 52 ]. The reason for low concentration of metabolites could be a competition for nutrients between the two microorganisms during growth.…”

“…Recent study has confirmed antibacterial effect of fengycins against Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. vesicatoria by causing alterations on the cell surface and loss of intracellular content [ 51 ]. On the other hand, lipopeptide putatively identified as locillomycin was detected at m / z value of 1146.8, representing a relatively novel family of lipopeptides which exhibit antibacterial and antiviral activity, but also limited antifungal activity [ 45 , 52 ].…”
