Objectives: To Synthesize the most used adjuvants in spinal anesthesia, summarize the mechanisms of action, indication, dose, adverse events, and safety outcomes described. Methodology: Non-systematic review in the medline, embase, central and Scielo databases without time or language limits, focused on adjuvants in spinal anesthesia, systematic reviews and meta-analyses were selected in order of priority in case they did not have them. Controlled clinical trials were chosen and finally observational studies. Results: 36 original and secondary studies met the inclusion criteria; a narrative review was carried out with the main findings of the same according to the authors. Conclusions: Adjuvants for spinal anesthesia are drugs that are intended to take advantage of a synergistic effect with local anesthetics that can improve the latency of action onset, duration of neuraxial blockade and reduce adverse effects, they stand out for their effects and better safety profile opioid adjuvants.
