Ferrimonas marina sp. nov.

Abstract: A novel Ferrimonas species is described on the basis of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic studies. Four halophilic organisms were isolated from marine sand and marine macroalgae samples by using high-pH marine agar 2216. An analysis of the nearly complete 16S rRNA gene sequences of these new isolates indicated that they were phylogenetically close (16S rRNA gene sequence similarity >99·5 %, gyrB gene sequence similarity >97·8 %), and were most closely related to Ferrimonas balearica (16S rRNA g… Show more

“…The culture was passed through several rounds of purification to obtain a reproducible homogenous sample. Taxonomical characteristics were analyzed as described in Katsuta et al, 2005. Sequence alignment and similarity search of the 16S rRNA gene sequence were conducted using the Ribosomal database Project [9].…”

“…Cells were harvested after 24 hours cultivation by using MB at 30°C for menaquinone, fatty acid and the guanine and cytosine contents of the genomic DNA analyses. Menaquinones and fatty acids were analyzed as described previously [12]. Chromosomal DNA was isolated and purified according to the method described previously [13].…”

“…Determination of the respiratory quinone system and cellular fatty acid composition were carried out as described previously (Katsuta et al, 2005). DNA was prepared according to the method of Marmur (1961) from cells grown on 1/2 strength R2A agar with 75% artifi cial seawater and the DNA base composition was determined by using the HPLC method of Mesbah et al (1989).…”
