Fertilization and crop rotation effects on the number of different groups of microorganisms

Abstract: The present study was carried out to investigate the influence of crop rotation and fertilization on the number of different groups of microorganisms. Soil samples were taken from the following treatments: 1. Monoculture of maize, 2. Maize-wheat (without fertilization), 3. Maize-wheat (with fertilization), 4. Maize-soybean-wheat (with fertilization), 5. Pasture soil, 6. Forest soil under oak, from three depths: 0-10 cm, 10-20 cm, and 20-30 cm in May and October 2012. Microbiological analyses included the deter… Show more

“…The abundance and enzymatic activity of microorganisms are highest in the surface layer of the soil, in the phase of intensive plant grow, while at the end of the vegetation period, the abundance and enzymatic activity of microorganisms decrease. The abundance of microorganisms in the soil also depends on the presence and nature of organic matter, methods of processing, fertilization and plant cover (Bolton er al., 1984;Stamenov et al, 2016.). The number of microorganisms also depends on a number of abiotic factors such as pH, temperature, soil moisture, the presence of heavy metals, pesticides and other harmful substances (Jemcev and Đukić, 2000).…”

“…The practices affect the distribution and supply of soil nutrients by directly altering soil properties and thereby influencing biological transformations in the rooting zone [9]. Influence of management practices on the size, composition, and function of the soil microbial communities varies greatly depending on their interaction with other abiotic and biotic factors, such as soil type, plant species, and other environmental variables [10]. Alterations in the physical and chemical nature of the soil may lead to change in soil microbial community, number and changes in microbial function [11].…”
