Fetal Outcome and Mode of Delivery in a Patient with Meconium-Stained Amniotic Fluid

Abstract: Background: Meconium stained amniotic fluid (MSAF), especially observed before term, is considered a sign of fetal jeopardy. Although many studies characterized this condition and associated it with delivery mode, data is lacking in this area, Saudi Arabia. Thus, we attempted to study it. Methods: All data were retrieved from pregnant patients with MSAF who delivered at King Abdul, Saudi Arabia, from January 2015 to December 2018. Results: 758 showed MSAF, of which 83% had vaginal delivery, whereas remaining 1… Show more

“…More infants with positive meconium were admitted to the NICU, as documented by Saudi Arabian researcher Amjaad Althaqaf (21.87%, OR0.086, p-value=0.001). 15 A similar pattern of elevated admission rates among infants with positive meconium stained beverages was also documented in a research conducted in India. However, the research did not find any statistically significant correlation between a positive meconium and a decrease in morality in newborns.…”

“…[2] Meconium-stained liquor is very troubling from both an obstetrician and a pediatrician's viewpoint, and it is necessary for foetal surveillance to minimise complications and mortality. [3] When meconium is breathing, three processes impact the lung: airway blockage, inflammation and tensile malfunction. [4] Lactate is generated with the greatest amount of production seen in muscle in most tissues in the human body.…”
