Fetuin-A and Fetuin-B in Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: A Meta-Analysis and Meta-Regression

Abstract: The magnitude of the effect of fetuin-A and fetuin-B on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) remains undefined. Therefore, the aim of this study was to synthesize previous findings to obtain a reliable estimation of this relationship. This study was registered in PROSPERO with the number CRD42019126314. Studies published not later than March 2019, examining the relationship between fetuin-A, fetuin-B, and NAFLD, were identified by a systematic search in the electronic databases of the Web of Science, PubM… Show more

“…The results of the systematic search and selection of eligible studies are presented in Figure 1. Overall, 3,564 articles were searched and 10 meta-analyses published from 2014 to 2020 (13,14,(28)(29)(30)(31)(32)(33)(34)(35) were eligible. The median number of studies per meta-analysis included was 13 (range, 7-30).…”

“…Therefore, to be conservative, the random-effects model was used to determine the standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for continuous data (19). Using the restricted maximum-likelihood estimator, the SMD was calculated using the Cohen's d method to synthesize the effect size across studies (20,21). Furthermore, heterogeneity among studies was assessed by the Cochran's Q-test and quantified by the I² statistic (22,23).…”

“…The aim was to combine direct and indirect evidence on the connection between multiple chemokines and NAFLD and to accurately assess the nature and extent of this connection. Additionally, the relationship between the chemokines and histological severity of NAFLD such as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) was assessed ( 10 ). Clarification of the magnitude of the potential effect of chemokines on the progression of NAFLD may have implications for preventing the pathophysiological transversion of non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFL) to NASH.…”
