Field Testing And Performance Evaluation Of River Water Treatment Plants

Abstract: This paper describes the monitoring works of Integrated Fixed Activated System (IFAS) which are customized to suit its application in river water treatment plant (RWTP) under River of Life (ROL) project that have been monitored by Departments of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) at Klang river and its tributaries. There are seven RWTP selected for monitoring and testing since these RWTP are monitored by the Malaysian Department of Irrigation and Drainage for River of Life Project. Several types of biological carrie… Show more

“…The sample is stored in a sterile 1500 ml polyethylene bottle before instantly transfer to the analytical laboratory for water quality parameters according to standard methods [41]. The detailed RWTP operation and data collection can be referred to from a previous publication [42]. The most essential method to classify the river water quality is the WQI index and National Water Quality Standards (NWQS).…”

“…The detailed description and location of RWTP have been described in the previous publication. [11] Fourteen (14) unit of RWTPs apply biological water treatment as similar has been incorporated Integrated Fixed Activated Sludge System (IFAS) and Moving Bed Biological Reactor (MBBR) as mention in previous publications [12]- [15]. The approaches included preliminary treatments (mixing and grit removal tank), secondary biological treatments (oxidation tank with fixed carrier), and clarifier.…”
