Field Trials-Based Planning Parameters for DVB-T2 Indoor Reception

Abstract: This paper presents the field trials carried out in Bilbao (Spain) for testing and analyzing the performance of the DVB-T2 indoor (fixed and pedestrian) reception. Test services with different DVB-T2 and T2-Lite configuration modes have been broadcasted and indoor measurements have been carried out. As a result, signal to noise ratio threshold values for DVB-T2 indoor reception have been obtained. These values update those provided by previous studies and are also valid for planning tools to be used by broadca… Show more

“…We consider a critical part of the constellation design to provide good system performance under different types of noise, and fading channels [73]. In fact, in many applications, the communication system must remain stable and operational under different reception conditions (noise and propagation channels) and so must remain the constellation performance [135]- [141]. AWGN noise is always present alongside several fading conditions due to the localization of the transmitter and receiver antennas.…”

“…In DVB-T2, there are several setting modulation parameters to select appropriate multipath protection. The field test of the DVB-T2 modulation parameter was presented in [15]. Choosing the right GI will solve the ISI and multipath problems because the multiple carrier has a fixed value per symbol.…”

“…Several field-measurements and field-trials of DVB-T2 have also been carried-out [16]- [21]. Based on the obtained data, the required SNR threshold [19] and minimum CNR [16] are estimated, by referring to the FBER (frame block error rate) and QEF (quasi error-free) criteria, respectively. By defining the successful reception as a condition when the receiver produces a moving picture, then the relationship of either CNR or BER and reception-success is probabilistic, not deterministic [20], [21].…”
