Fiftieth anniversary of diode lasers: early history at Lebedev Institute

Abstract

This paper presents a short review of early works at the Lebedev Physics Institute (Moscow, Russia) on the theory and practice of semiconductor lasers: before their realization in 1962 and in the subsequent years of the 1960s and 1970s.
