Fijacion primaria y variaciones morfologicas, durante la metamorfosis de algunos bivalvos chilenos

Abstract: The larval primary settlement and the changes originated during the metamorphosis of some species of Chilean bivalves, are comparatively studied, being described, the larval and post - larval stages from the veliconcha to late plantigrade. By observing in ropes "anchovetera" nets and plankton samples, in the mitiliculture of Codihué (41º 46'S; 73º 24'W), it was verified for Mytilus chilensis Hupé, 1854 and Aulacomya ater (Molina, 1782), primary settlement on the filamentous algae of ge… Show more

“…Nonetheless, latitudinal and habitat variations of the same species should be taken into account as adults were mentioned to be smaller in Chile (Valladares & Stotz (1996) than Argentina (Lomovasky et al 2007). According to the literature (Le Pennec 1980, Uribe Barichivith & Lopez Stefoni 1980 denticles of the hinge could be found during the larval period, but after that they disappear progressively. Our specimens showed no denticles, but the resilium and chondrophore.…”

“…The only previous information about Z. patagonica spat was published more than 20 y ago by Uribe Barichivith and Lopez Stefoni (1980), who gave some measures of Chlamys patriae (''synonymized'' to C. patagonica by Waloszek (1984)) in Chile. Furthermore, in his longer account on Z. patagonica on the Argentinian shelf, Waloszek (1984) presented a description of the shell morphology and sculpture of specimens larger than 5 mm.…”
