Film diffusional influences on the kinetic parameters in packed‐bed immobilized enzyme reactors

Abstract: A number of studies on packed-bed immobilized enzyme reactors have shown the significant influence of the external film mass transfer resistance on the apparent kinetic parameters. Some of the earlier mathematical models using approximation techniques have attempted to explain the linearity of the S(0)x vs ln (1 - x) plots observed experimentally for systems obeying Michaelis-Menten kinetics. However, there has been no critical examination of the bounds of validity of the approximations used. Further, the situ… Show more

“…The higher apparent resistance to thermoinactivation of PANIS, and PARIS, is probably partly an artefact resulting from a substrate diffusional limitation effect. [27][28][29] This observation is in agreement with the relative activity observed for the different compounds ( Table 3). Moreover, PANIS, and PARIS, (Fig.…”

“…For a given reactor-inlet substrate concentration and liquid Ñow rate, was calculated by eqn k L a (22). Using this value, was calculated and then / E inserted into eqns (11) and (12), which gave and V m app After substitution of these values, eqn (13) (19). This indicates the validity of a series of equations for the apparent kinetic parameters presented here.…”
