Final results of double-shell tank 241-AN-106 ultrasonic inspection

Abstract: This document presents the results and documentation of the nondestructive ultrasonic examination of tank 241-AN-106. A tank inspection supplier was retained to provide and use an ultrasonic examination system (equipment, procedures, and inspectors) to scan a limited area of double-shell tank 241-AN-106 primary tank wall and welds. The inspection found no reportable indications of thinning, pitting, corrosion, or cracking. ia,4q Charge Code: 106700/CA40 Total Pages: 63 TRADEMARK DISCLAIMER. Reference herein to… Show more

“…Pitting was not found in the six tanks examined by UT, as defined by the inspection criteria (Pfluger 1999). However, localized pit-like indications were observed in tank AN-105 (Jensen 1999b). In addition, earlier visual examinations of two tanks that had previously held waste and a thermocouple tree that had been removed from a waste tank did show some moderate pitting.…”

“…Through the end of FY 2000, ultrasonic examination of eight (8) double-shell tanks had been conducted (Leshikar 1997, Jensen 1999a, Jensen 1999b, Jensen 1999c, Jensen 1999d, Jensen 1999e, Jensen 2000b This ETP is an overall plan for task completion that details the roles and responsibilities of individuals involved in the examination process. Included herein is the plan for engineering activities, performance demonstration testing of the examination equipment, field activities (tank inspection), the equipment support approach to be used, and the 4.…”

“…Data collected during the UT examinations will be used to assess the condition of all 28 tanks. June 22, 1999 (Jensen 1999c) Nov. 24, 1996 (Leshikar 1997) The areas of each tank that were examined generally conform to the Engineering Task Plan (Pfluger 1999) and are shown schematically in Figures 3,4 and 5. The examinations concentrated on the vertical wall region of the primary tank that is comprised of four or five courses (rings) of welded plates.…”
