Financial Analysis of Beekeeping Practices at Acacia crassicarpa Plantation Forest in Riau Province, Indonesia

A Pribadi,
H Kurniawan,
A Junaedi
et al.

Abstract: One environmental service provided by A. crassicarpa plantation is extrafloral nectar which has been widely used for beekeeping since 2019. Nevertheless, nowadays between apiaries practiced unfair competition since there were price fall led by oversupply and low demand after covid pandemic ended. Thus, evaluating the cost structure, profitability, and its feasibility value are critically required. The study's objectives were to 1) evaluate cost structure, revenue and profitability and 2) to conduct a feasibil… Show more

“…Acacia provides extrafloral nectar secreted continuously from each young leaf (Kusuma et al, 2023). The nectar secretion volume of A. crassicarpa aged 12 and 50 months can produce nectar of 47.74 and 73.76 liters/ha/day (Pribadi et al 2023). The high nectar secretion activity that lasts throughout the year makes acacia plants an excellent food source to support honey beekeeping, as shown by the results of this research.…”

“…The honey harvesting period is between March and October if the local climates are favorable and are not hampered by high rainfall. That is why the productivity of A. mellifera in acacia plantation forest areas is relatively high, and it can be 68 kg/colony/year (Pribadi et al, 2023).…”

“…The A. crassicarpa could produce abundant nectar all year long. It contrasted with beekeeping in Java, where beekeepers relied more prevalent on flowers (Handayani et al 2022;Pribadi et al 2023;Suhesti et al 2023). The oil palm plantations became the source of pollen, a protein source responsible for the physiological and immune functions of worker, male, and queen bees (Bryś et al 2021;Hassan 2011).…”
